There’s a fascinating Bobby Fischer exhibition on display at the World Chess Hall of Fame right now. Featuring unique photos by Harry Benson it looks well worth visiting. Here’s a Fischer masterpiece that came after the publication of his 60 Memorable Games. It’s one of those games which makes chess look deceptively easy:

The blitz portion of the three-part match between the former world champion Anatoly Karpov and 4-time U.S. champion Yasser Seirawan was entertaining and well-played. Neither player had much to offer by way of opening prep, and that mutual lack helped make the match. Neither player got much out of the opening, so that meant they had to play chess: no quick wins and no quick forced or semi-forced...

Round 5 of the Tal Memorial was still another good one, and it saw a shakeup at the top. Coming into the round Alexander Morozevich and Teimour Radjabov were tied for first, and with Morozevich getting Black against Levon Aronian and Radjabov the white pieces against Magnus Carlsen one would think Radjabov would have the better chance to come out of the round on top. And early on, that guess...

Alexander Morozevich won an exciting game against Levon Aronian in the 5th round of the Tal Memorial and moved into the sole lead with 4 points, a full point ahead of the nearest followers. Moro lined some sort of the Triangle Stonewall with black pieces, but this probably wasn’t a great surprise for the Armenian [...]

English GM as he despatched the world number two Levon Aronian in
sacrificial style at the Tal Memorial. The game was all the more
remarkable as McShane had lost his first two games and was playing
with the black pieces.

Round 5 of the Tal Memorial looks destined to be a very good day. Aronian and Carlsen
will be very keen to kick start their push for first against the leaders. Grischuk has been unlucky so
far and Caruana has just got back to 50%. Nakamura-Kramnik looks like it might be exciting
and Tomashevsky and McShane will no doubt be looking at each other and thinking they need
to win.

The rapid portion of the clash between legends, Anatoly Karpov and Yasser Seirawan ended in two draws. In the first game, Karpov achieved a dominant position in the same line of the Slav that they played in round one of the classical match.
