They followed the entire game Smirin-Kaidanov Ashdod 2004 after which black was fine. Hou did emerge with an extra pawn but it was useless for winning purposes and the draw was agreed in 58 moves. Score Hou Yifan 2.5 Humpy Koneru 1.5. Game 5 2pm GMT on Sunday 19th November 2011.

Carlsen seemed to get a bad opening but a clear edge eluded Kramnik. Peter Svidler played a fine Gruenfeld against Hikaru Nakamura and beat him in 48 moves. Boris Gelfand repeated a line played by his opponent...
