The 27th European Club Cup starts this Saturday (September 24) in Rogaska Slatina, Slovenia, and this 7 round team event is ridiculously strong. 27 2700s are playing, including three of the four World Cup semi-finalists (Ivanchuk won't be there because he's playing in the other event mentioned in this post), plus Gelfand, Radjabov, Mamedyarov, Adams, etc., etc., etc. Insanely strong.

The Dutch Chess Federation have drawn attention to new FIDE proposals to increase ratings fees which they say are "a direct threat to the FIDE rating system", breach a previous promise that there would be no "higher costs for federations or players" and that as FIDE balanced their budget "there are no reasons given for the excessive increase in tariffs".
