In the last round of the Accentus GM tournament in Biel Alexander Morozevich defeated Yannick Pelletier. The Russian finished second behind Magnus Carlsen, who drew with Fabiano Caruana. The Dutch Open took place in Dieren 19th-28th July 2011. 14 GM’s (among them Maxim Turov, Erwin L’Ami, Jan Timman, Alexandr Fier and Friso Nijboer), 1 WGM and 5 IM’s. Maxim Turov edged out Yuri Vovk and Vladimir Georgiev on tie-break after all finished on 7/9.

The 98th British Championships take place in Ponds Forge in Sheffield 25th July to 6th August 2011. Michael Adams, Nigel Short, David Howell and Gawain Jones are the top seeds and make it one of the most attractive events in recent history. Play starts at 2:15 each day starting on Monday 25th July.

A total of 263 players are signed to compete in one of the three Groups. The main Open A has 120 players from 18 countries, with 37 Grandmasters and 17 International Masters in the field.

The 1st International Tournament Isthmia 2011 is set to take place from 18th to 25th August at the "Alkyon" Hotel in Vrachati, Korinthia, Greece. The tournament will be 9-rounds Swiss event, divided in two rating groups. The organizers are Pnevmatiki Stegi Peristeriou, Korinthia Chess Academy "Argonaftis", Prefecture of Peloponnisos and Municipality of Velo Vocha.
