For one week Rethymno, the town of culture and art is becoming the center of chess events around Europe. The Third International Chess Tournament "Rethymno 2011" is going to be held from 11 till 18 July 2011 and give hospitality to great personalities of chess from many different European countries and as a result the spiritual battles are expected to be fabulous and definitely intensive.

Back to chess. Three events recently finished, each noteworthy in its own right.
1. There's a tournament in Leiden going on now, but what caught my eye was a two game rapid mini-match there between the child prodigy and new Dutch champion Anish Giri and Dutch legend Jan Timman. I haven't been able to find the games (help, readers!), but it ended in a 1-1 tie.

The 7th Memorial Chess Tournament "Uroš Dinić" was held on Sunday, 10th July in Paracin, Serbia. 87 players from 13 countries took participation, with 10 Grandmasters, 11 International Masters and 13 FIDE Masters in the field.
