The Greek Team Championship takes place in Eretria 3rd-8th July 2011.
7 round team event over 8 boards. Each team has 3 men, 1 woman,
2 juniors (U-18 and U-12) and two girls (U-18 and U-16). Up to two foreigners (non-Greek) are allowed.

The Albena Chess Open with a massive participation of 274 players and generous prize fund of 40000 EUR was held from 25th June to 3rd July in the sea resort Albena in Bulgaria. After the exciting finish two English Grandmasters, Gawain Jones and Nigel Short, shared the first place with 9.5 points each. In the last round they defeated GM Abhijeet Gupta and GM Pablo Lafuente, respectively. Jones was declared champion on better tiebreak.

Fabiano Caruana won the first Airports Authority of India (AAI) International Grandmasters Chess Tournament. The Italian grandmaster finished on 7/10 and a 2799 performance rating. The 3rd Abierto Internacional de Ajedrez Carlos I took place from 25th June to 3rd July at the Hotel Carlos I, in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra), the most exclusive beach resort in Galicia, Spain. The 9-round Open offered 7500 EUR in prizes, with 1200 EUR dedicated to the winner.

Wouter Spoelman's time atop the leaderboard of the Dutch Championship made for a nice story, but now it's back to dog bites man. The finding was based on the wrong arm of the French Chess Federation being involved in the appeal - it was the federation's Ethical and Disciplinary Action Commission and not the Executive Board that would have had the proper legal standing.
