Gelfand played f6 with the idea of e5 but then decided it was too dangerous and went on the defensive. Grischuk didn't find a decent attacking setup and after 22.Bg4?! allowing 22...e5 Gelfand equalised and a draw was agreed a few moves...

The 17-years old Yu Yangyi continued the good run from the Asian Championship and convincingly won the tournament, leaving the opposition as far as point and a half behind. The newly crowned China Champion Ding Liren did not perform well and landed next to last with 3.0 points.

The finals have already started on May 19th and are consisting of a 6 game classical match, which will be followed by tiebreakers if necessary. Here is a recap of the quarter finals.

The first exciting game from the Candidates matches final analyzed by GM Danielsen. The score is currently level, as tomorrow is the final game of the match. The winner will play against Viswanathan Anand for the World Championship 2012.

Who knew? That brings the totals to a whopping 27 draws in 29 games for the Candidates. Of course this is in part a function of the short matches and the rapid tiebreaks, but it's pretty depressing nevertheless, as the point of this exercise is to determine a challenger for the CLASSICAL World Championship, not the rapid title. This general complaint doesn't really apply to today's draw, however...
