The Knight Riders were successful at this year's Final Four. The team led by Susan Polgar and Paul Truong managed to win a title in what can be viewed as the Final Four with most mass media coverage. After the success, coaches Polgar and Truong gave an extensive interview to Dr. Hal Karlsson, Associate Professor of GeoSciences at Texas Tech University.

Grandmaster Mihai Suba from Romania became the European Senior Champion after taking a clear first place with 7.5 points. Crucial was his victory against GM Miso Cebalo in the penultimate round. GM Viktor Kupreichik was in position to catch Suba with a win against FM Malkiel Peretz, but he actually lost.

The US has a top ten player for the first time since Kamsky 1.0, but Hikaru Nakamura is only in St. Louis as a spectator. With the two-time champ out of the picture, Kamsky 2.0 (2.5?) is the top seed in this year's US Championship. He's also defending his title, come though it did after a four-way tie for first, three rapid playoff games, and a draw on the black side of an armageddon blitz game...

Turkish Children's Team Championship U-11 started in Kemer (Antalya) on Tuesday, April 12th, 2011, and will continue until 17th April. More than 1100 chess clubs all around Turkey were trying to earn the right to participate here. This year 288 players and 46 clubs are taking part in the event.

The European Seniors Chess Championship took place 6th-15th April 2011. Men and women played in the same section but there were two titles. Nona Gaprindashvili took the women's title on tie-break from Galina Strutinskaya after coming 18th on 5.5 points. Going into the final round Mihai Suba led by half a point from his opponent Gennady Timoscenko. Timoscenko agreed a draw after only 9 moves...
