Auction house Weiss Auctions (See their Entry and photos for the set) has sold the chess set used in the infamous Game 3 of the World Chess Championship Match of 1972 between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky for $67,500. GM Gergely-Andras-Gyula Szabo convincingly won the tournament by collecting 8.0 points from eleven games. IM Marcin Tarbaz probably eyed a GM norm, but after a weak start with two losses, he is probably satisfied with the shared second place, where he landed together with GM Vadim Shishkin.

The International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open, dedicated to the memory of President Heydar Aliyev, is scheduled to take place from 23rd April to 1st May at the "Nakhchivan Chess Center" in Nakhchivan. The players will enter two tournaments, A Group for those rated above 2250 and women rated above 2100, and B Group for those rated under 2250.

The TCEC Season 2 Premier division, the highest league for computer chess, has started. The defending champion Houdini 1.5a is undefeated after round 3 and is sharing the lead with Ivanhoe B47cB, Stockfish 2.01, and Rybka 4.1.
