First, Tony Boron informed me that he has some old pictures of Bobby Fischer taken in Iceland in 1972, which he has posted on his blog. Have a look.
Second, when I wrote my review of Frank Brady's forthcoming Fischer bio Endgame, I stated that it didn't have any pictures. I was subsequently informed that the final edition would have pictures and made the correction, and now, having received a...

There were some short games today in Wijk aan Zee, but not all of the draws were short and not all of the short games were drawn. Nepomniachtchi-Grischuk and Vachier-Lagrave vs. Aronian were drawn quickly, but the miniature Carlsen-Giri was a rout in Giri's favor. Carlsen's prep wasn't good at all, resulting after 17 moves in an equal position where the burden was on White to maintain equality...

The third round of the Tata Steel tournament in Wijk aan Zee saw more fighting chess. Whilst Anish Giri's win in a miniature
against World Number one Magnus Carlsen will gain the headlines it was a very poor performance from Carlsen. The last game
to finish was Hikaru Nakamura's win against Alexei Shirov which was a tremendous struggle in all its phases. This win means
that Nakamura leads alone...

Hikaru Nakamura grabbed the lead in the A group of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament on Monday. The American grandmaster beat Alexei Shirov and is the only player on 2.5/3. Magnus Carlsen blundered and lost against Anish Giri. In the B group Luke McShane from England won this third game. Games & standings; later more. [...]

World Number One Magnus Carlsen lost to Anish Giri in just 90 minutes and 22 moves in an appallingly slapdash manner. Carlsen's 11.Qd2 novelty looked very strange
in a position where white has a huge number of alternatives. Giri equalised extremely quickly and then Carlsen played one inaccurate move
after another to reach a lost position after 19 moves which Giri accurately exploited in just...

After the second round of the 2011 Tata Steel Chess Tournament, Anish Giri and Jan Smeets together showed their hypersharp Botvinnik Semi-Slav in the press room. It was one of the many draws on Sunday, but in fact quite an attractive game. Enjoy, and understand more of what happened there.

Many participants of the 2010 Women’s World Championship in Hatay, Turkey were quite unhappy about the way it was organized. No less than 18 of them, including former World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk, have signed an open letter which addresses several issues concerning accommodation and food. The playing hall of the Women’s World Championship, which took [...]

After the first round of the 2011 Tata Steel Chess Tournament, David Navara entered the press room and gave a spontaneous ‘press conference’ about his game against Radowslaw Wojtaszek. The Czech GM was happy about his game, and rightly so – it won him the daily public prize in the B group. Take your time [...]
